Elevators
Elevators are good in buildings or establishments with many levels or floors to traverse.
In high traffic buildings, it is necessary to have many elevators in a corridor.
The only issue here is that it is a guess as to which one will open and offer
to take you to your destination. Another type of elevator is a freight elevator:
These are for small vehicles or heavy loads.
An elevator is a type of vertical transport equipment that efficiently moves people
or goods between floors (levels, decks) of a building, vessel or other structures.
Elevators are generally powered by electric motors that either drive traction cables
or counterweight systems like a hoist, or pump hydraulic fluid to raise a cylindrical
piston like a jack.
Lifts are utilized in warehouse or industrial environments to move heavy repair and
maintenance items from floor to floor. These can sometimes be referred to as ‘parts
lifts’.

Escalators transfer more people in shorter distances, like in the airport, the mall,
a hotel, or at a department store. The benefits of escalators are many. They have
no waiting interval (except during very heavy traffic), they can be used to guide
people toward main exits or special exhibits, and they may be weatherproofed for
outdoor use.
Escalators have an electric motor that moves the drive gear, which in turns moves
the rest of the machine. A belt from the motor to the drive gear is of upmost importance.
Without the belt, nothing else would work.
The typical angle of inclination of an escalator to the horizontal floor level is
30 degrees with a standard rise up to about 60 feet (18 m). Modern escalators have
single-piece aluminum or steel steps that move on a system of tracks in a continuous
loop.
